Walking in Limburg, you quickly think of the hills in the south of this province. Nevertheless, North Limburg also lends itself to wonderful walking tours. Such as this route through Horst and the natural surroundings.
Immediately at the start of your walk, you will come across the first point of interest: the ruins of Ter Horst Castle. This fortress dates from the fourteenth century, but was partly destroyed by marauding soldiers during the Eighty Years' War. In 1798 the French ended the manor rights of the last occupant, after which the castle fell into disrepair. Only the nearby tithe barn from 1744 was spared. In Castenray you can admire the Saint Matthias Church, the choir dates from 1485.
A little later you walk along the Castenrayse Vennen and you dive into the Schadijkse Bossen. You pass the Eendracht Maak Macht, a windmill from 1899. Because it was made with parts from an older mill, the beard has two dates on it.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
