Description

Rillaar is a village in the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant and is located near the city of Aarschot. The village lies along the river Demer, the brook Motte flows through it. The name comes from Rietlaer: a place located on the reed. Not surprising, because the vast fields along the Demer are very swampy. Good shoes are a must so today! Rillaar has been a lively village since the Second World War, which used to be known as'Petit Paris\\\' because of its rich nightlife. Today, the village is renowned for its sweeping views, which you can fully enjoy today with this hill walk. In addition to beautiful views, you will encounter more nice things on your path today, such as the protected manor farm Speelhoven: the oldest farm in Aarschot. The moat is still partly intact here, nice to see! The surrounding estate is a beautiful sloping area with a special nature, which the lords of Speelhoven have always taken good care of. Quite different is the crater, which comes from the impact of a V1 bomb. You will also pass the holding basin that protects Rillaar against flooding and the testing grounds of the Catholic University of Leuven. A very varied walk!
