Of course, Bruges no longer needs an introduction, just as good wine needs no wreath. However, not everyone knows that Bruges, in addition to an almost unparalleled historic city center, also has natural beauty to offer. With this walk you will get to know the Tillegembos, a nature reserve on the southern edge of Bruges. Those who want to find some peace after a long day in Bruges will find an ideal place to switch back. As a hiker you will discover a wide variety of flora and fauna in the Tillegembos. You walk through coniferous and deciduous forests, but also through heaths and along flowery hay meadows. In autumn, the forest is a big feast for mushroom lovers. Along the light-filled avenues, the potato bovists, stink fungi and pearl amonites are the first to appear at the end of summer. A few weeks later you will also find species such as tender milk mushrooms and even the famous fly agaric. It is wonderfully quiet walking here in the lee of the tourist bustle. Tillegem Castle has stood in the forest since the fourteenth century. Over the centuries, the castle has often changed hands through inheritance, sale and wrong political choices. The current moated castle got its appearance during the last makeover in the nineteenth century. The castle can only be viewed from a distance, but even then it is a beautiful picture.
