Your route starts at Carlton Square Hotel, with a cup of coffee at Bar & Kitchen Zocher. The old center of Haarlem is definitely worth a visit, it has been designated a protected cityscape. The tour takes you from the city through the Kennemerduinen, where you can learn all about it in Duincentrum de Zandwaaier. Then it is time to go into town and see Huis Te Zaanen. This national monument was originally a glory. There was once a castle behind it and the hus functioned as a gatehouse. Because Willem Zaanen was part of a plot to murder Floris V, the house was destroyed in retaliation in 1296. Finally, nature and environmental center Ter Kleef promotes nature and environmental awareness of Haarlemmers through educational activities.

It goes without saying that the building, as it stands today, no longer reminds us of the old castle. As far as we know, no image of the old castle has been preserved. Coincidental finds are known, including monastic jokes, which may indicate that the 13th century castle was there. For the rest, jugs, coins, etc. have been found. It seems a bit strange that sarcophagi appeared at the end of the 18th century, as Adriaan Loosjes mentions in his 'Hollands Arcadia' (1804). There should have been a church or chapel with burial rights at the castle, unless these relics from the past came from elsewhere

The most famous windmill type in the Netherlands. Windmills were used not only to produce flour from cereals, but also to reclaim polder areas. Natural energy. The most famous windmills can be found in Kinderdijk, really set up as a polder model. A must see!
