Your route starts  with a cup of coffee at Bar & Kitchen Zocher. The old center of Haarlem is definitely worth a visit, it has been designated as a protected cityscape. The tour takes you from the city through the Kennemer dunes, which you can learn all about in Duincentrum de Zandwaaier. Then it's time to go into town and see Huis Te Zaanen. Originally this national monument was a glory. There was once a castle behind it and the house functioned as a gatehouse. Because Willem Zaanen was part of a plot to kill Floris V, the house was destroyed in 1296 in retaliation. Finally, nature and environmental center Ter Kleef promotes the nature and environmental awareness of Haarlemmers with educational activities.

A meeting place for Haarlem residents and international guests! Delicious barista coffee, lunch around the open kitchen, a cocktail at the bar or a dinner with friends on the terrace. As a famous Haarlem garden architect from the past and certainly also as a true Burgundian, Zocher is the inspiration for this lively meeting place. Near the Haarlemmerhout, but also Landgoed Elswout and Koningshof are easily accessible from here. Also discover the historic heart of Haarlem!

It goes without saying that the building, as it stands today, no longer reminds us of the old castle. As far as we know, no image of the old castle has been preserved. Coincidental finds are known, including monastic jokes, which may indicate that the 13th century castle was there. For the rest, jugs, coins, etc. have been found. It seems a bit strange that sarcophagi appeared at the end of the 18th century, as Adriaan Loosjes mentions in his 'Hollands Arcadia' (1804). There should have been a church or chapel with burial rights at the castle, unless these relics from the past came from elsewhere

The most famous windmill type in the Netherlands. Windmills were used not only to produce flour from cereals, but also to reclaim polder areas. Natural energy. The most famous windmills can be found in Kinderdijk, really set up as a polder model. A must see!
