Description

Want to 'do' three UNESCO World Heritage monuments in one day? Then this is the route for you! A spectacular bike tour where you cycle from the city center of Amsterdam with its famous canals (no. 1, check!) to the De Beemster reclaimed land (no. 2, check!) and along the way visit some of the forts of the Defense Line of Amsterdam (no. 3, check !) can visit. However, apart from those three cultural highlights, there is much more to see on this cycle tour along the Golden Triangle. There are the endless views in Waterland with its high sky, or the stately farms in De Beemster that were once built here by wealthy merchants from Amsterdam (such as the De Eenhoorn farm in Middenbeemster with a facade like a canal house). But you also tour along the Zaan with its old warehouses and the Zaanse Schans where mills, barns, houses and museums give an idea of life and work in the eighteenth century. In De Beemster itself you see the geometrically straight lines of the polder contrasting with the erratic winding patterns of the old peat meadow areas. And every now and then you pass a fort that was once part of the Defense Line of Amsterdam to protect the capital against enemy troops. In short: a beautiful and varied route where you can see a lot, but where you also have to push hard!
