Genk offers you a unique cycling environment in which cultural history and peaceful nature reserves alternate. The Limburg city owes much of its growth to mining. At C-mine, the former mining site of Winterslag, the industrial heritage is perfectly combined with contemporary activity. During your visit, descend into the underground experience trail or climb to the top of the large shaft for a spectacular view. A technology and science park is being developed in the monumental main building of the former Waterschei mine, where there will soon be something to do for everyone. Ready for a picnic? Behind the building there are special picnic spots in the middle of nature. Or drive on to the Kattenvennen, one of the six gateways to the Hoge Kempen National Park, the largest of its kind in Belgium. There is a huge star ball in the middle of this domain: the Cosmodrome. In Kattevennen you discover nature and the universe. There is no shortage of greenery in Genk. You will also find the De Maten stream valley and the Bokrijk domain, which is known for its open-air museum. Bokrijk is located in the middle of De Wijers, an exceptional nature reserve with no fewer than 1,175 ponds. The route starts and ends on the outskirts of Genk.
