Description
Cycling through Kalmthout
The starting point of this route is on the heath at the Kalmthoutse Heide - De Vroente Nature Education Center - Beekeeping Museum. The Beekeeping Museum is the only museum in Europe completely dedicated to the honey bee and beekeeping. Take a look here to learn more about bees and buy sweet honey from local beekeepers. From here you set sail straight through Kalmthout to Essen. Along the way, stop at the famous Kalmthout Arboretum, a 6-hectare provincial garden with a unique collection of trees, shrubs and plants.
The heather in bloom
After cycling for about 16 kilometers you can take a break at De Kiekenhoeve. Sit down here and enjoy a tasty snack and a drink before getting back on your bike. From here you can also follow route 623472. In the last part of the route you can take a break again at Monida Bistro-Cremerie.
Visit a museum
In addition to the Beekeeping Museum, you will find three more museums on this route where you can take a look. Learn more about the bakery history in the Bakkersmolen and Steam and Bakery Museum, dive into the world of Suske and Wiske in the Suske and Wiske Children's Museum or visit the Carts Museum and view a large collection of carts, wagons and carriages of all types and sizes.
