With the wind in your hair you walk over the dunes of IJmuiden aan Zee and come into contact with the raw history that is already far behind us. The Bunker Route starts from the Badweg in IJmuiden aan Zee; a 2.5 km walk that maps an impressive piece of history along a winding shell path. The heavy artillery and fire control bunkers of the coastal battery Heerenduin and anti-aircraft battery Olmen from the Second World War are located in the coastal area. You can scan the QR codes with your smartphone to receive more information about the bunkers. Along the way you have a beautiful view over the dunes of IJmuiden aan Zee and IJmuiderslag. At the end of the route you walk past the Bunkermuseum IJmuiden. This is an open-air museum, with five exhibition bunkers. Guided tours are organized regularly, both inside and outside.
