City walk in Zevenaar

Zevenaar is located in the heart of the Liemers, the triangle of the Rhine, the southern IJssel bank and the national border. The city was hit hard during World War II, which is why the atmosphere feels young. The walking route runs through the center and southern outskirts of Zevenaar. The walk takes you past the Buitenmolen. The history of this mill dates back to 1408. This made the original Buitenmolen one of the oldest mills in the Netherlands. The mill building you see now was built around 1540. The belt mill is a round, heavily built stone windmill (torenmoors), which was used to grind grain. In 2014, a voluntary miller still puts it into operation every week.
