Dordrecht, also known as'Dordt\\\', is first mentioned in a text from the twelfth century. At that time the city was still called Thuredrech. In 1220 the place was granted city rights and Thuredrech developed into one of the six largest and most important trading cities in the Netherlands. Later, as other major cities established their names, this importance diminished. When you cycle through the city, the rich past of the city still speaks to you through the many historic buildings. Pay a visit to the Orange Museum. More than 4500 objects have been brought together here by an avid collector. If you want to visit the museum with all kinds of objects about the Royal family, you can make an appointment. If you're in the area, take a look at the Vliegend Hert windmill. This is the highest corn tower mill in the Hoeksche Waard. In 2014, the mill became the property of the Molens Binnenmaas Foundation. The foundation appointed a voluntary miller and festively opened the mill. Since then, the mill can be visited when the blades are turning.
