Enjoy in and around Hengelo

The municipality of Hengelo as we know it today was founded in 1811, but the area where Hengelo originated has been inhabited for thousands of years. The beginnings of Hengelo go back to about 1802, when farms and small farm workers' houses were built together. On the edge of the Molenven you will find the Soaseler Möl. This ground sailor dates from 1870 and served as a flour mill. The mill was built on behalf of Augustinus Bootsveld, whose previous mill was destroyed during a storm. This national monument has a wingspan of no less than 22 meters, but is unfortunately no longer put into operation. Havezate Grotenhuis is located in the hamlet of Hertme. The first mention dates back to 1417 and since then many wealthy families have owned the house. The manor has always remained privately owned.
