Tour of Leenderbos from Maarheeze

Your route starts at Cafe-Terras Ons Lieske. From here you make a beautiful meander to Budel and the green border area. At junction 36 you can deviate from the route for a visit to the Achelse Kluis, a Trappist abbey on the border of Belgium and the Netherlands. In 1656, a border chapel was built nearby: Catholics from the Protestant Netherlands were allowed to hold their worship services here, just across the border. In the Leenderbos you can still see a number of old camps: old fields surrounded by oak walls. Meandering along the cycle paths you always have a different view of it. This Kempen landscape with its small height differences was created during the last ice age. You cycle back to your starting point via the authentic hamlet of Leenderstrijp.
