Peel and Maas castle cycle route

The Peel and Maas Castle Cycle Route runs in Baarlo and Kessel in North Limburg. The village of Baarlo aan de Maas is a historic castle village and has no fewer than 4 castles. Kessel is one of the oldest villages on the Maas and has a nationally recognized, but above all cozy center. The cycle route shows you the castle villages of Baarlo and Kessel with all their special historical objects. The attractive village of Baarlo can boast a rich past. The cycle route takes you past Kasteel d\\\' Erp (now privately owned), De Berckt Castle (now a group accommodation) and Castle (Chateau) de Raay (now a design hotel-restaurant, where you can enjoy a delicious cup of coffee with Limburg pie always ready!). Then you cycle along'Mooder Maas\\\' to Kessel where you can admire the beautiful Keverberg Castle and you will also pass Oeverberg Castle (now private property). One of the castles along the route is Kasteel d\\\'Erp, built in 1473. Once a year, a washing demonstration is given by ladies in traditional costumes at the old Sprunk washing place, near the water mill. De Keverberg Castle forms the historic village center of Kessel. During the Eighty Years' War, De Keverberg had a hard time. In 1579 it was set on fire and after reconstruction (1639) it was raided. As one of the few remaining moth castles in the Netherlands, the castle is well worth a visit.
