The Wekeromse Zand is an area of about 500 hectares. Here you will find a unique sand drift area, forest, heathland and arable land. There are also some fens and streams with a variety of frog species, small salamanders and dragonflies. A lot of hair grass and sand sedge grow here, but also rough maidenhair and real sand maidenhair. In autumn there are a number of rare mushrooms to be found, such as the yellow knight mushroom, white-brown knight mushroom and the spruce squid. The Lunterse Buurtbos is also very nice. Five national monuments are hidden between the trees: the Notarisbank, an American oak that was planted as a gift to the notary (there is a large fence around it), a lookout tower called De Koepel, an old water pump next to De Koepel and the avenue pattern in the form of a vining leaf branch. At Het Uilenbos, hidden between the trees of the Lunterse Buurtbos, children can fully release their energy. Play around in the playground, cuddle with the animals at the petting zoo or enjoy a delicious pancake in the pancake house.
