Alden Biesen Commandery
The starting point of the route is in the centre of Bilzen at the Sociaal Huis. Here you can get more information about the sights of Bilzen and the surrounding area. Then you cycle through an English landscape park to the Landcommanderij Alden Biesen. The landcommanderij is one of the largest castle domains in the Euregio. In the tourist reception centre you can learn more about the fascinating history of the German Order of Knights and the Landcommanderij. Here you can also admire the interior of the Haspengouw castles.
City beer and regional dishes
A little further along the route you will pass Groenendaal Castle from the 17th century, the Jonckholt ruins with the remains of a medieval fortress and the moated castle of Schoonbeek. This gently rolling area is not called a castle landscape for nothing. The route ends in the pleasant centre of Bilzen. Take a seat on one of the many terraces on the market and taste the delicious city beer'Heer van Biesen\\\'. The regional dishes such as rabbit or farm chicken in Bilzen style are also recommended.
