Walking in the Gortelse Bos near Vaassen

This route takes you from Vaassen in Gelderland into the Gortelse Bos, which is part of the Veluwe. You mainly walk under deciduous crowns here, although pine trees also grow in some places. Long avenues with tall trees alternate with winding paths and suddenly open heaths. It is extremely quiet in this area. Especially on weekdays you run the risk of seeing a deer or deer darting between the greenery. It is a wonderful route to let your thoughts run free. The rhythmic stepping over the soft paths will relax you completely. On the outskirts of Vaassen you will pass the sixteenth-century Kasteel de Cannenburgh. This castle was built on the remains of an earlier, probably fourteenth-century castle. In 1543, the former ruin came into the hands of the famous warlord Maarten van Rossum. He gave the order to rebuild the castle, but died before it was completed. Nice to walk around the castle so you can take in the beautiful surroundings.
