Tour of Twente from the heart of Oldenzaal

Your route starts at Stadshotel Ter Stege. Cycling through the area around Oldenzaal you can enjoy all the greenery that Twente has to offer. South of Oldenzaal you pass the Haagse Bos, but the Lutterzand to the east is just as beautiful. Sand drifts, heathlands and forests with birch and oak trees that are intersected by the Dinkel. This ancient river winds its way and moves half a meter every year, pushing through the sand. The steep banks along the stream serve as a nesting place for the sand martin, but the kingfisher and the large yellow wagtail also whistle the highest song in the Lutterzand. You can even see rare juniper scrub here. Due to the special composition of the Lutterzand, the area has been designated as a geological monument.
