Cycling along the Hollandse IJssel

Your route starts at Gasterij de Toren. Museum Heksenwaag in Oudewater quickly becomes a fascinating place to stop. This unique witchcraft museum even has a real scale on which alleged witches were weighed. You can enjoy cycling through and around the Reeuwijkse Plassen. Large water features and meadows characterize the area, as does the forest: the Reeuwijkse Hout. The Hollandse IJssel is connected to the Reeuwijkse Plassen. Originally the river was a side arm of the Lek, but that arm was dammed in the 13th century. Because of its tranquility it is a popular water for canoeing, with picturesque floodplains and picturesque villages on the banks. In Woerden you can see the Windhond mill. The mill, built in 1755, stands out because it is located on a mill hill.
