Description
This route takes you to the Abbey of Averbode. The abbey was founded in 1134 on the initiative of Arnold II, Count of Loon. It is a Premonstratensian abbey. During the day you can freely visit the courtyard of the abbey and the abbey church. You are also welcome in the abbey bookshop located in the courtyard. This way your visit to the abbey becomes a journey of discovery through the life of the Premonstratensians of Averbode. Here you can see abbey life as it is.
Gerhagen Nature Park
Not only culture, but also nature is on the menu today. You cycle through the beautiful and varied landscape of Nature Park Gerhagen. This quiet area consists largely of forests. Meadows and fields also occur in the lower part. In the area you will find the fens of the Pinnekensweier nature reserve and the De Houterenberg nature reserve with its forests, heaths and shifting sands.

Along the way you can spot the nightjar or the woodlark if you pay attention. At the bottom you will find, among other things, the swamp clubmoss, sundew and the brown and white beak rush. At Bosmuseum Gerhagen there is a watchtower of almost 19 meters high. Those who dare to climb the mountain will be rewarded with a magnificent view.
