Experience the Flemish Ardennes

With this tour you will discover the Flemish Ardennes, an officially recognized Regional Landscape in the province of East Flanders. You will find various biotopes here, such as ponds, swamp forests and open fields. Unique to the Flemish Ardennes are the plants dark cranesbill, purple scaly root and spotted lungwort. In the mostly small-scale landscape you can occasionally hear the calls of the black redstart, yellow wagtail and little owl. During the route you cycle through several East Flemish villages, such as the picturesque Rozebeke and the pilgrimage sites of Nederbrakel and Elst. Here you experience the typical peace and conviviality of the Flemish countryside. You will also visit Zottegem, known as Egmontstad. Two statues, a castle and a dozen signs remind us of the unfortunate sixteenth-century Count Lamoraal of Egmont.
