Description
Enjoy the beautiful landscape of West Friesland and get a breath of fresh air on the side of the IJsselmeer, that is possible with this route. This route takes you over the dike to Enkhuizen and then you cycle back inland.
Relaxing along the water
The starting point of this route is in the historic center of Medemblik, the oldest town in West Friesland. Look carefully around you when you cycle through this town because you will find beautiful facades and other beautiful sights everywhere that remind you of the rich history of Medemblik. On the edge of Medemblik you cycle past Radboud castle. Then you cycle a bit along the IJsselmeer. Relaxing should not be a problem here with a beautiful view over the water with a boat here and there. Then you cycle through the herring city of Enkhuizen. The picturesque center of Enkhuizen is intersected by canals and enclosed by a beautiful rampart. You will also find the Zuiderzee Museum and the Enkhuizer Almanac Museum here.
The Bakery Museum
From Enkhuizen you cycle back to Medemblik. The start and end point of the route is at the Bakery Museum. Here you can see how bakers used to practice their craft, but you can also enjoy a delicious filled cake.
Radboud Castle
Radboud Castle is a beautiful castle from 1288. It is one of the many castles that were built in North Holland at that time on behalf of Floris V. He used these castles as strongpoints to keep the West Frisians under control. Nowadays you can still admire two residential wings, a square tower and a round tower. The castle used to be a lot bigger in size, but it is still worth seeing.
