Leusden is sandwiched between the Utrechtse Heuvelrug and the Gelderse Vallei. In and around this town you will find special landscapes. This walk takes you through the beautiful forest area of Leusden. From the VVV Leusden you walk through one of the many Leusden parks to the Lockhorsterbos, which takes its name from the patrician family Lockhorst. Various deciduous and coniferous trees grow here together. Some trees are a few years old, the stately oaks and beeches are estimated to be over 200 years old. The forest is a true refuge for all kinds of bird species. You can see almost all native tit and woodpecker species, but also the bullfinch, the robin and - with a bit of luck - even the kingfisher. From this forest you enter the ancient estate Den Treek. Here you walk along the Hazewater, a sloping and alternating wet and dry heathland on the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. A little further you walk past an old preschool with an upper master's house. The route leads you back to the VVV Leusden via a park. Here you will find all the information you need about Leusden, including a number of beautiful cycling routes through the beautiful region.
