From Leusden through the Gelderse valley

Leusden is wedged between the Utrechtse Heuvelrug and the Gelderse Vallei. In and around this town you will find special landscapes and cultural-historical places. This route takes you through the region northeast of Leusden. You cycle along the Valleikanaal that formed an important part of the Grebbelinie. Many elements of this defense line can still be found in the landscape, such as the 2500 meter long Asschatterkeerkade. It is well worth getting off your bike and taking a walk along this dike dating from 1745. The route then takes you through the rural area of the Gelderse Vallei. Here you cycle between the meadows where you can enjoy wide panoramas, meadow birds and special plants. Here and there you can still see a remnant of the blue grassland that used to be present in much larger numbers. Near Leusden you cycle through a beautiful new nature reserve, De Schammer.
