From Leusden through the Gelderland valley

Leusden is wedged between the Utrechtse Heuvelrug and the Gelderse Vallei. In and around this town you will find special landscapes and cultural-historical places. This route takes you through the region northeast of Leusden. You drive along the Valleikanaal, which formed an important part of the Grebbe Line. Many elements of this defense line can still be found in the landscape, such as the 2500 meter long Asschatterkeerkade. It is very worthwhile to get off your bike and take a walk on this quay dating from 1745. The route then takes you through the rural area of the Gelderse Vallei. Here you drive between meadows where you can enjoy wide panoramas, meadow birds and special plants. Here and there you can still see remnants of the blue grassland that used to be present in much larger numbers. Near Leusden you cycle through a beautiful new nature reserve, De Schammer.
