Extensive heaths and forests around Epe

The Wisselse Veen and the Tongerense Heide
The Wisselse Veen is a flat and wet area with mainly grasslands, but also with marshes and open water. In this area you will find special plants such as the bell gentian and the gorse. The special butterfly gentian blue also occurs here. If you walk further to the Tongerense Heide you will end up in a drier area. A herd of Schoonebeker sheep grazes here to keep the wild vegetation somewhat under control. From the Boerweg you have a beautiful view over the Tongerense Heide on one side and the Wisselse Veen on the other. On the Tongerese Heide you walk through an area in which forests, heaths and fens alternate.

The Copper Mill
At the Klaarbeek you pass the Kopermolen, a water mill from the eighteenth century. In the past, dozens of copper plates were made here for the covering of ship hulls and for coin plates from which money was minted. The mill also served as a paper factory and as a corn mill. The mill has been in the hands of the same family since the late 1950s. In 1975, the mill and the associated building were renovated.
