Description

Your cycling route starts at the new Family Restaurant De Jonge Graaf. From here you cycle to the nice Wijk Bij Duurstede, where there was a Roman Castellum in Roman times. Country estates steal the show in this region. You can cycle to the Leeuwenburgh country estate, built in 1657. The nearby Hindersteijn was even first mentioned around 1300. Groenestein Castle was probably built between 1377 and 1414, but was converted into a country house in the eighteenth century. Country estate Wickenburgh is a picture: in a park forest you will find a simple, white main building, an old gardener's house and a beautiful winding pond with a pigeon tower. The coach house with coachman's house and a wash house have also been preserved. The route then takes you past Beverweerd Castle, which has been white-plastered for several years now, towering above the Werkhoven greenery.
