Description

You walk from the city of Zaltbommel to the Kil van Hurwenen, a nature reserve in the floodplain of the Waal. This area was created in 1639 when a meander of the river was cut off from the main stream by man. At high tide, the area is still flooded. Many bird species use the area to forage when they migrate to their wintering grounds or return. You cannot walk in the Kil itself, but the surrounding meadows can be reached on foot from sunrise to sunset from May to October. In Zaltbommel you can visit the Maarten van Rossum Museum.
