Through forest and dunes with the IJmond route

This route introduces you to all facets of Zuid-Kennemerland National Park, a varied dune and forest area between IJmuiden and Zandvoort. During your tour you will see special plants such as orchids, sea bindweed, centaury and slender gentian. The surf sounds in the background, you have plenty of time to enjoy the panoramic view of the sea from the dune tops. Taking a dip is of course a must. On the east side of the national park you mainly drive through the forests. You will also pass the Elswout estate, a country estate where centuries-old trees and (in spring) flowers add color to the surroundings. Many of the old buildings have been beautifully restored. Along the way you will pass the Ruine of Brederode, a remnant of the thirteenth-century Brederode Castle. Since the castle was burned down during the Eighty Years' War, it has not been restored. In the nineteenth century, the castle was restored as a ruin and became the first national monument. The route starts and ends at the parking lot of VVV Zandvoort. After your bike ride you can enjoy a well-deserved snack and drink in the charming town or at one of the (year-round) beach pavilions.
