Tour of Dwingelder and Holtingerveld

Imagine yourself far from civilization in Dwingelderveld National Park. This is the largest swampy heathland in Western Europe. You can cycle beautifully along rolling heathland, drifting sand, forest and dozens of lakes and fens. Rainwater does not soak into the ground here due to an impermeable layer below the soil surface. More than sixty fens and heathland ponds have been created throughout the area. In summer, heather and heather color the area beautifully pink and purple.
