The forests of Eastern Flevoland

Fairytale poplars and breathtaking combinations of ferns, mosses and creepers. Musing in the largest hardwood forest in the Netherlands, you may not immediately recognize Flevoland, but you are really in the Randmeer forests. This long green ribbon consists of young polder forests and the Horsterwold, where velvety mosses cover the tree trunks and deer graze on the forest meadows. Cattle, horses and game roam leisurely around the Silent Kern of the Horsterwold, but the Roggebotzand is also very special. These old, loamy sandbanks of 778 hectares are covered with a diversity of plants. Take your binoculars with you and with a bit of luck you can spot the pair of sea eagles that have built their nest in the Roggebotzand.
