The forests of Eastern Flevoland

Fairytale poplars and breathtaking combinations of ferns, mosses and vines. Musing in the largest deciduous wood forest in the Netherlands, you don't immediately recognize Flevoland, but you really are in the Randmeerbossen. This long green ribbon consists of young polder forests and the Horsterwold, where velvety soft mosses cover the tree trunks and where deer graze on the forest meadows. Cattle, horses and game roam around at ease in the Stille Kern of the Horsterwold, but the Roggebotzand is also very special. These old, silty sandbanks of 778 hectares are covered with a diversity of plants. Bring your binoculars and with a bit of luck you can spot the pair of sea eagles that have built their nest in the Roggebotzand.
