To the windmills of Zaanse Schans

The starting point of this route is Oesdom coffee & shop. When the weather is nice you can sit here in the park or under the trees on the square. You are welcome here for a snack and a drink. Then it is time to explore the surroundings of the Alkmaarder and Uitgeestermeer on your steel steed and discover the water-rich polder landscape. The typical peat meadow area is rich in vulnerable plant species. Along the way you will enjoy typical cultural heritage: you will cycle past a lot of windmills. Also particularly beautiful is the Fort at Krommeniedijk, part of the Defense Line of Amsterdam. Between 1897 and 1956 it was used as a fortification. You will also pass the Zaanse Schans, a unique part of the Netherlands full of wooden houses, mills, barns and workshops.
