Description

This route takes you through Alkmaar and along the Eilandspolder. First you drive along the green edge of Heiloo. You pass the Pulpit Rock, an old moraine. According to tradition, the monk Willibrordus preached here centuries ago to spread Christianity. In cheese city Alkmaar you can enjoy the historic atmosphere thanks to the many old buildings. On the Hoornse Vaart you pass four monumental ironing mills from 1630. On the right you look out over the Oudorperhout, a unique meadow area in the middle of the city. You cycle through Stompetoren, a village that owes its name to the church tower. From the path you have a beautiful view over the Eilandspolder. You cycle through Groot-Schermer and Graft, along the Alkmaardermeer you drive back to Egmond Abbey.
