The medieval collective of larger farmers created a beautiful landscape around the Havelterberg, near Uffelte. High-altitude fields were separated by gigantic forests, large peat areas, vast heathlands and beautiful drifting sands. On the Havelterberg in the Westerzand you can see two dolmens from the Funnel Beaker culture: dolmen D54 and dolmen D53. Dolmen D54 is the smallest with fourteen supporting stones and six capstones. The easternmost capstone is missing, together with the keystone. Dolmen D53 has 21 supporting stones, two keystones and nine capstones. The gate is also still complete and consists of four supporting stones and a capstone. Via Uffelte and the nice village of Ruinen you make a beautiful winding path through the Drenthe landscape. The twelfth-century Mariakerk is located on the village green of beautiful Ruinen. Take a break along the way at Landgoed Welgelegen in Koekange!
