Avifauna-Gouda

This cycling tour has Gouda as its destination, a beautiful historic city in the Groene Hart. You cycle via Boskoop with its many tree nurseries to the centre of Gouda. Park your bike near the VVV (junction 42) and discover the city centre on foot. Everything in the centre is within walking distance of each other. Explore the small streets and walk across one of the most beautiful market squares in Europe. A visit to the Sint Janskerk is definitely a must. At 123 metres, this is the longest church in the Netherlands. The Sint Jan is famous for its Goudse Glazen, a large collection of stained glass windows. Every year in December, Gouda hosts the Goudse kaarsjesavond, a beautiful spectacle in which the entire market square is beautifully illuminated. On the way back, you cycle along the Reeuwijkse plassen with its many meadow and water birds. You may catch a glimpse of the wigeon, gadwall, shoveler, whooper swan or white-fronted goose, because this area is a resting place especially for these birds that winter in the Netherlands.
