Walking through the Beemster
The starting point of this circular walk is in the small village of De Rijp. Here you can sit down at Bij Ernst for a bite to eat and a drink. From here you can walk over the famous tight roads and the ring dike of the Beemsterpolder. Around this linear area you will find wetland peat meadow areas. During this tour you will see all kinds of beautiful things to admire. For example, think of forts hidden in the greenery such as Fort Spijkerboor and bell-shaped farms.

Forts in the green
Fort areas used to be forbidden areas for local residents and therefore nature could take its course here undisturbed. This has ensured that special flora and fauna can be found here and there. For example, the rare blue bedstraw grows on the sparse grass slopes and kestrels, spotted woodpeckers and buzzards breed here. This area is also the wintering place of wigeons and crested ducks.

Sights in De Rijp
At the end of your tour, also make some time to take a look at De Rijp. This used to be a fishing village full of activity, but now you will mainly find a pleasant tranquility here. The old town hall from 1630 is worth a look and the Grote Kerk is also a gem.
