Description

The Wervenroute is a versatile circular walk on the former island of Marken. You walk on the dike and through the streets of the typical Marker residential areas, which were originally built on wharves. Wharfs are artificial mounds of 2 to 3 meters high, which the inhabitants raised with manure, sod and garbage because the island was often flooded several times a year. Since the construction of the Afsluitdijk in 1932, the risk of flooding has passed, but the wharves have remained. The route is marked with blue stickers with the name of the route and an icon on it. The alternative options are indicated with yellow stickers. Dogs are allowed, provided they are kept on a leash.
