The Uilenhoek Route is a marked circular walk over the Beemsterringdijk with a passage straight through De Beemster. The route follows the winding ring dike and then takes the straight Vrouwenweg through the north of De Beemster. Along the Vrouwenweg you will pass the Uilenhoeve, one of the many beautiful farms in De Beemster. In the spring, De Beemster is teeming with meadow birds, such as godwits, redshanks and lapwings. To allow the meadow birds to breed in peace, no cows graze in the spring. Mowing only takes place after mid-June, when the chicks of the meadow birds can fly. The route can be shortened to 5.5 km. The unpaved parts of the Beemsterringdijk are often bumpy or muddy. At many points you have to climb over fences using stiles. The route is marked with blue stickers with the name of the route and an icon on it. The alternative options are indicated with yellow stickers.
In Laag Holland are the rustic villages of yesteryear. While cycling you will find Dutch history in the beautiful straight polder lines and the protected city and village views. Low Holland is a national landscape. The Defense Line of Amsterdam and the Beemster have been placed on the World Heritage list by UNESCO.
