Waterland, North Holland, The Netherlands
Hiking route: 177821
Provided by: Bureau Toerisme Laag Holland
The Badkuip route is a circular walk on the grass dike of the drained Noordmeer, a deep-lying polder that is strongly reminiscent of an empty bathtub. The old land on the other side of the ring dike is an open peat meadow area, bordered by reeds. Part farmland, part nature reserve. From the ring dike you have a beautiful view of this nature reserve: Het Varkensland. The reserve is an Eldorado for meadow birds. Dogs are not allowed on this route and the route is not accessible during the breeding season from March 15 to June 15.
You start the walk in the backyard of Amsterdam at the idyllic village of Broek in Waterland. You can recognize this village immediately by the pastel-colored monumental buildings. This oasis of peace a stone's throw from the busy city of Amsterdam is a great location to stretch your legs.
