Walking with Jacobus Craandijk through the Hof van Twente

Back in time in Twente Hof van Twente may be one of the most beautiful cycling regions in the Netherlands, but you can also enjoy walking there. The landscape full of forests, meadows, meandering streams and idyllic farms exudes an almost old-fashioned tranquility. Every step seems to take you further into the past. Here you would almost forget that you live in the hectic 21st century. The route takes you from Markelo to Goor. In between you will visit Diepenheim, the smallest town in Overijssel. Diepenheim is known for its art, culture and centuries-old country estates, the so-called manors. During your walk you can (possibly via a small detour) take a look at Huis Diepenheim and the castles of Warmelo, Nijenhuis and Weldam. At Huis Diepenheim you will also see a beautiful castle gate. This shows the coat of arms of the Bentinck and Ittersum family and the number 1685, the year the castle was built. The estates are not open to the public, but the estates with castle gardens are.
