Walking with Jacobus Craandijk through the Hof van Twente

Back in time in Twente Hof van Twente may be one of the most beautiful cycling regions in the Netherlands, but you can also go for a lovely walk. The landscape full of forests, meadows, meandering streams and idyllic farms exudes an almost old-fashioned tranquility. Each step seems to take you further into the past. You would almost forget that you live in the hectic 21st century. The route leads you from Markelo to Goor. In between you will visit Diepenheim, the smallest town in Overijssel. Diepenheim is known for its art, culture and ancient country estates, the so-called manor houses. During your walk you can take a look (whether or not via a small detour) at Huis Diepenheim and the castles Warmelo, Nijenhuis and Weldam. At Huis Diepenheim you can also see a beautiful castle gate. It bears the coat of arms of the Bentinck and Ittersum family and the number 1685, the year the castle was built. The estates are not open to the public, but the estates with castle gardens are.
