Walk with Jacobus Craandijk near Bloemendaal

Through the Kennemerduinen The Netherlands has one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world. This is due to the clean sandy beaches, but also due to the beautiful dune areas. This route takes you through one of those beautiful landscapes, Zuid-Kennemerland National Park. This nature reserve is an oasis of peace in the middle of the hectic Randstad. The route takes you through the eastern part of the national park. Here you mainly walk through forests, but also through inner dunes and past flowery meadows. In the mild climate of the inner dunes you will find typical and sometimes vulnerable plants such as sea buckthorn, elder, parnassia, orchids and sea thistle. In the forest of Middenduin you will find, among other things, the Corsican pine. In the 1950s to the 1990s, part of the land in Middenduin was used for bulb cultivation. Now you see meadows where wild flowers grow. On your route you will also see monumental buildings - after all, you are walking through the 'front garden' of Bloemendaal. The Ruins of Brederode appeal most to the imagination. It is an ancient remnant of a castle that was built in the thirteenth century and plundered by Spanish troops in 1573. The route starts at Santpoort-Zuid Station and ends at Bloemendaal Station.
