Het Bildt is one of the oldest polders in our country. The name comes from opgebild, which means silted up. The locals will gladly tell you that you are not in, but on Het Bildt!
Middle Sea
Your walk today takes you through the polder of Het Bildt. This area was once part of the Middelzee. By building dikes, the mouth of this sea has been increasingly drained since the beginning of the sixteenth century.
Noarderleech
You walk through the Noarderleech, which is part of the Noard-Fryslân Bûtendyks nature reserve. It is one of the largest salt marsh areas in Europe and consists of summer polders, salt grasslands and mudflats. You see many birds passing through, such as geese, black-tailed godwits and curlews. The often salty plants give the landscape a special appearance. From the dikes it is clearly visible that the land used to be divided symmetrically. Look back in Oudebildtzijl at the old church.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
