Polderland
The route starts in Hallumerhoek. You immediately walk into the characteristic Frisian polders of vast grasslands and ditches. This walk takes you through the cultural landscape of northeast Friesland. You walk here through a beautiful old polder land that was partly shaped by the hard work of the Frisians in their fight against the sea. Like their Groningen neighbours, they made artificial mounds, so-called mounds. Churches and entire hamlets arose on and along these mounds.
Oudebildzijl
You walk in the lee of the Zeedijk - walk up at junction 13 or 34 for a nice view over the outer polder polder with the Wadden Sea behind it. In clear weather you can see Ameland. Inland you will see the villages and hamlets on your route. You also walk through Oudebildtzijl, which enjoys a protected village view. Here you can admire the striking Juliana Church from 1806 - a bell was hung in the tower after the birth of Princess Juliana in 1909.
