Walk through Meijendel from Wassenaar

Your route starts at Restaurant de Baron. This walk takes you through Meijendel, a vast nature reserve north of Scheveningen. You mainly walk through the forest in the dune valley, past hawthorn and other deciduous trees planted by humans. You will also see remains of the former agricultural exploitation, such as Meijendel Farm and sand banks and ditches planted with alders. Here and there you walk across small plots of pine trees. Meijendel is an ideal walking area, you can completely relax in this sheltered and quiet area. Animals also like to stay in Meijendel. About 100 bird species breed in this nature reserve and rabbits, deer, foxes and weasels live there. Bats hibernate in some remaining bunkers from the Second World War. A small part of the route takes you through an open dune landscape.
