Discover the old Hanseatic city of Kampen

Kampen is a city, municipality and old Hanseatic city at the very lower reaches of the river IJssel in the Dutch province of Overijssel at rhine kilometer 995.5. The municipality of Kampen has a population of 51,278 (May 1, 2014, source: Kampen Municipal Guide 2010/2011) on an area of approximately 162 km2 (of which only a small part is water). The surface area of the city of Kampen itself is approximately 11.39 km2. Kampen is located in Northwest Overijssel (Kop van Overijssel) and is the largest town in this area. The municipality is partly located in the IJsseldelta National Landscape. Kampen is administratively connected to Zwolle through a Network City agreement. The city of Kampen itself has 34,775 inhabitants. A variant of the Sallands dialect is spoken in Kampen, also called Kampers.
