Walking route Quackjeswater and Hellevoetsluis

This walking route starts at Strand- en Eetcafé Boelies. After a cup of coffee, put on your walking shoes and walk to the forest around the Quackjeswater, a dune lake. Thick old oak trees and many plant species grow here. It looks like a primeval forest. The Quackjeswater is part of Voornes Duin, a dune area that is unprecedentedly rich in plant and animal species. Because no drinking water is extracted here, the dunes are very damp. Hence all those dune lakes where numerous birds can be seen. After lunch at your starting address, you walk to the port of Hellevoetsluis. Here you can visit the Jan Blanken Dry Dock, which was built between 1798 and 1822. You walk back with a view of the Haringvlietdam from 1971, which spans 4.5 kilometers.
