Most beautiful village route: Elsloo, Schimmert and Geulhem

Your route starts in the Bunderbos, a sea of trees that extends over a length of five kilometers. The ribbon-shaped forest covers a number of Maas terraces in the Maas valley. Schimmert is one of the highest (church) villages in the Netherlands, special! Further on you pass the Sint Gerlach castle, which was built as a monastery in the twelfth century. It was not until the nineteenth century that the monastery was converted into a castle. It is beautiful around the South Limburg village of Geulhem. In the Geulhemmerberg there are several former marl quarries in which cave houses have been made. You drive to Elsloo via Stein and Urmond. Elsloo Castle is the eye-catcher of the protected villagescape in Elsloo, a picturesque town on the Maas.
