Your route starts in the Bunderbos, a sea of trees stretching for five kilometers. The ribbon-shaped forest covers a number of Meuse Terraces in the Meuse Valley. Schimmert is one of the highest-situated (church) villages in the Netherlands—quite special! Stop by IJssalon Clevers Schimmert for a delicious ice cream. Further along, you pass Sint Gerlach Castle, which was built as a monastery in the twelfth century. It was not until the nineteenth century that the monastery was converted into a castle. The area around the South Limburg village of Geulhem is beautiful. In the Geulhemmerberg, there are several former marl quarries in which cave dwellings have been created. Via Stein and Urmond, you drive to Elsloo. Elsloo Castle is the eye-catcher of the protected village landscape in Elsloo, a picturesque town on the Meuse.
