In the middle of the large river area lies fortress Gorinchem, a real fortified city. Stroll through the fortress, soak up culture, go fun shopping or grab a terrace. It's all possible!
The original ramparts are still almost completely intact and run all the way around, offering beautiful views over the rivers; unique in the Netherlands! Gorinchem is also the largest authentic fortress in the Netherlands. The location on the river is best experienced nowhere else than at'Buiten de Waterpoort\\\'. Boats and ferries have been leaving here for centuries. Even now, you can still board the foot and bicycle ferries to Woudrichem, Loevestein Castle, Fort Vuren or towards the Biesbosch. And there is a unique city beach!
The fortress is a perfect starting point for beautiful bike rides. From ferry to terrace, from fortress to fort: there is plenty to discover!
