Experience the nature of the Drents-Friese Wold National Park

On the border of Drenthe and Friesland, lie beautiful, large forests, heathland, drifting sands and peaceful stream valley grasslands: National Park Drens-Friese Wold. After the Veluwe, it is the largest contiguous forest area in the Netherlands. The symbol of this beautiful forest area is the black woodpecker. If you are lucky, you can see this beautiful little bird in the forest; you often succeed in hearing its drumming. Accompanied by its enthusiastic drumming on the tree trunks, your bike ride immediately gets more atmosphere.

But of course there is more to see than just nature. The tour takes you to Westrup, a stately building in Dwingeloo that was given its status as a manor house in 1740. Another name for the house is "Westdorp", the name of the small village that later became part of the municipality of Dwingeloo. When the then owner died in 1792, his death ended the status of Westrup as a manor house. Since the house was sold to a notary in 1843, it has always remained a notary's house and office.
