Description

This walking route starts at Het Witte Hof in lovely Haastrecht. This town arose around 1100 at the place where the Vlist flows into the Hollandsche IJssel. One of the most beautiful buildings of this historic place is the old town hall from 1618. From the steps of the town hall you can see the characteristic drawbridge over the IJssel, built in 1883. The tower of the Dutch Reformed Church dates from the 13th century. After a tour through the polder, you walk the second part of the route behind the ruins of a mill: Boezemmolen nr.6. This round stone mill in the shape of a bell is the sixth in a series of seven mills that drained the Krimpenerwaard. All these mills were originally seesaw mills that were built from 1486.
