Border hopping tour near Moerbeke

Your cycling route starts at the centuries-old Heidebos. Just before Axel you drive along the Axelse Kreek, one of the largest creeks in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. It is a remnant of the once mighty channel that flowed from the Western Scheldt via Axel to Hulst and eventually flowed back into the Western Scheldt via the Hellegat. This open connection was closed with the diking of the Bewesten Blijpolder in 1790. In the eighteenth-century polders you will find the typical vast Zeeland landscape of high skies, creeks and roads lined with trees. In Heikant you cross the border again and drive back via the pleasant Moerbeke.
