Description

Uithuizen is the main town of the municipality of Eemsmond. The name comes from Huizen uit de Wierde; that is to say, the first houses that were not built on, but next to, the Brunwerd mound. Despite the fact that the village is fairly small and has only 5,200 inhabitants, there are still a number of beautiful sights and numerous national monuments in Uithuizen, such as the best preserved deposit in the Groningen landscape. The tour takes you through the former Uithuizerpolder water board. The water board had no drainage system and discharged its water through a discharge sluice: the Uithuizer pump on the Oostpolder. The route starts and ends at Hotel Ekamper. This attractive hotel is located in one of the smallest villages in Groningen, just below Roodeschool. The hotel is located in a beautiful landscape with imposing farms and surprising views.
